Cart and Checkout - Always Provide the Full Order Cost, or an Estimate, in the Cart

Unclear total costs create uncertainty before checkout. Users expect to see the full order cost, including shipping, taxes and fees, while still in the cart.

If those costs are hidden until later, shoppers may hesitate to continue or abandon altogether. Baymard found that 14% of US online shoppers had abandoned an order because they couldn’t see the total cost upfront.

PLPs - Always Include the User Ratings Average in List Items And Search Results

Ratings help users judge product quality and suitability while browsing. When they’re missing from product lists or search results, users have to open individual product pages to compare options.

That extra effort can cause users to dismiss otherwise suitable products or leave the site to look for reviews elsewhere.

PLPs - Always Show Prices in Product List Items And Search Results

Price is one of the main ways users compare products while browsing. When it’s missing from product lists or search results, users can’t quickly judge whether an item fits their budget.

This creates friction and makes the product harder to evaluate, often causing users to skip it entirely or leave the site to compare options elsewhere.

The team in the room really loved the way the Baymard Institute highlighted the optimizations in the various user experience elements (copy, layout, design, calls-to-action…), from the perspective of consumer struggles. Baymard’s Usability research really complements our other existing research tools.
