Gilt’s E-Commerce UX

This is a case study of Gilt’s e-commerce user experience (UX) performance. It’s based on a full-performance review of more than 550 design elements. 59 other sites have also been benchmarked for a complete picture of the e-commerce UX landscape

Gilt’s overall e-commerce UX performance is mediocre. The main culprits of this are broken Mobile E-Commerce and poor On-Site Search performances.

Gilt’s Homepage & Category performance is acceptable. For instance, Gilt’s category experience has good Category Taxonomy and Main Navigation yet suffers from mediocre Homepage and broken Intermediary Category Pages.

Gilt’s On-Site Search performance is poor. Some of Gilt’s biggest on-site search usability issues are due to poor Results Layout & Filtering and broken Results Logic & Guidance.

Gilt’s Product Lists & Filtering performance is acceptable. Notably, Gilt’s product list performance is hampered by mediocre Loading Products and broken Filtering: Available Filters, although this is helped somewhat by good List Layout and Comparison Tool.

Gilt’s Product Page performance is acceptable. Notably, Gilt’s product page performance is hampered by mediocre Auxiliary Content and Specifications Sheet, although this is helped somewhat by state of the art Product Page Layout and good Product Variations.

Gilt’s Cart & Checkout performance is mediocre. Notably, Gilt’s checkout performance is hampered by mediocre Field Labels & Microcopy and poor Credit Card Form, although this is helped somewhat by good Form & Page Design and Default Values & Autocompletion.

Gilt’s Accounts & Self-Service performance is mediocre. Notably, Gilt’s account performance is hampered by poor ‘Your Account’: Addresses, Payments, & Newsletters and Orders & Order Tracking, although this is helped somewhat by decent Account Drop-Down.

Gilt’s Mobile E-Commerce performance is broken. Some of Gilt’s biggest mobile usability issues are due to mediocre Mobile Form Field Usability, poor Mobile Homepage, Navigation, & Search, and broken Mobile Shopping Cart, Cost & Account.
